Kayak Scupper Plug Care & Maintenance

Our kayak scupper plugs do not require much maintenance but doing so will ensure their proper performance. Your new scupper plugs will likely come from the factory with some residue on them. This is actually a mold-releasing agent that allows them to easily come out of the manufacturing molds. If you notice your new scupper plugs have a slightly oily feel to them, then you may want to wash them off. This oily film can cause the plugs to pop-out easier then they should. Simple dish soap and water is all that is needed. If your new plugs are functioning well as-is then you do not need to wash them.

If you find your scupper plugs are not performing as well as they did when new, a bit of washing will likely return them to top performance. Again, just a bit of dish soap and warm water is all that is required. Some customers occasionally notice an odor from the water or even fishing that has accumulated on the plugs. If this is the case, just soak the plugs overnight in a bath of warm water and dish soap. By the morning your kayak scupper plugs will be as good as new.

Happy paddling!
